Joe Ettari, Estee Lauder Jim Smith with the Career Planning class

At Smithtown High School we offer a half-year, Career Planning class for students in grades 10 -12.  This class covers the following topics over a ninety-day period:

  1. Building a strong academic foundation:  What high school courses should I be taking?
  2. Self Assessment:  What careers am I best suited for?
  3. Career Research:  Is this the career for me?
  4. Post Secondary Education/Training:  What will be my college major?
  5. Industry and Corporations:  Who Will Hire Me?

Class enrichment includes guests speakers from industry, college, government, and the military.  Each student also takes advantage of the opportunity to shadow a career professional for two to six hours.  Each student creates a personalized career plan.

We are seeking those individuals who would like to share their career experiences with our students as guest speakers or shadowing mentors.

Please email Mrs. MaryPat Grafstein if you would like to volunteer your services.  The Career Planning classes meet at either 8:50 a.m. or 10:15 a.m.  Shadowing experiences can take place at any time.

What is a Virtual Committee?  A Virtual Committee conducts its business via the Internet. However, if one daring individual comes forward with a box of Krispy Kreme donuts, the committee will convene to consume.
